Pink & Chocolate 1860- 1885 by Nancy Gere for Windham
Fabrics
The origin of chocolate
brown used as a predominant color in printed fabric
appeared with regularity in the nineteenth century.
The color was worn by widows who had passed out of the
stage of mourning, when they were expected to wear only
black. The patterns used in these "mourning browns"
were simple calicos, and not like the more stylized
designs featured in this collection.

French
Quarter by Paula Barnes for Marcus Bros
Taken from antique French prints, Paula Barnes' FRENCH
QUARTERS is reminiscent of the genteel times when the
European trade lines were flourishing in the South.
Everything from furniture, wallpaper, metalwork, porcelain,
china and fabric from France was popular in the states
during the 1800's.

Calisto
by Anna Griffin for Windham
The Calisto collection
has an easy, natural feeling that echoes throughout
the line from the oversized Jacobean prints to the Faux
bois stripes. Looking weathered by years of use, the
subdued monochromatic palette includes muted ochre,
antique blue and sage green. |

Scarborough
Fair by Nancy Gere for Windham fabrics
Stunning examples of
the 19th Century florals and blenders. Elegant line
work and delicate variations in colour are typical of
these European period engravings. Blends really well
with Clarissa, as shown above. |

Valley
Forge by Nancy Gere for Windham Fabrics
Several mid to late
19th century quilts discovered in Valley Forge, PA,
not far from the Schuylkill River outside of Philadelphia,
are the basis of the Valley Forge Collection. Ironically,
the fabrics in this collection come from the major European
textile mills of the day, and imported to America almost
100 years after Washington won his epic battle. |
